International Systems Research Launches PPPhone: a new Flat-Rate Mobile IP Phone Service.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Tokyo, Japan — February 4, 2004 — INTERNATIONAL SYSTEMS RESEARCH CO. (ISR) announced today that the development of PPPhone , the mobile IP telephone system, has been successfully completed, marking its entry into the IP Telephony solutions business.

ISR will offer PPPhone,  the mobile IP phone service, in partnership with major IP telephony carriers and ISPs.

PPPhone  may be used with mobile devices like Notebooks and PDAs, and may be combined with network solutions such as IP Centrex and IP-VPN. PPPhone  transforms the IP Phone terminal into a ubiquitous phone extension (inside or outside the office) and provides the capability of making calls to external lines as well as receiving calls.

A key feature of PPPhone  is ISRs proprietary PPPush function (patent pending) which allows a mobile device equipped with @FreeD flat-rate PHS card to receive inbound calls even if it is turned off. The PDA is automatically awaken from power-off/-saving mode by WakeOnRing (*1).

As compared to existing cellular phone services, PPPhone  can:

1) Allow a PDA to be used as an internal telephone (extension line) away from offices free of charge. The conversation of PPPhone  Softphone -to- PPPhone  Softphone or PPPhone  Softphone -to- subscribed IP phone becomes a conversation between extension telephones.

2) Allow users to make calls directly to an extension number outside the office thanks to the connectivity with the IP Phone providers' network solutions such as IP centrex and IP-VPN.

ABOUT PPPhone

PPPhone  is a client-server type mobile IP telephone system consisting of a SIP protocol server and Softphone client for the PDA, Notebook, or PC.

Features of PPPhone  include:

1) Mobile IP Telephony with wider geographic coverage:
By using PHS lines, PPPhone  is available not only at wireless hot spots but also in overwhelmingly wider areas than previously possible with other services. This allows dual connections, such as wireless LAN in the office and PHS outside of the office.

2) Capability of receiving inbound calls via WakeOnRing and @FreeD flat-rate PHS card (patent pending):
The ability to receive inbound calls while the device is turned off provides stand-by times of several hours--similar to those of cellular phones (*2).

3) Connectivity with PSTN and IP-VPN:
Interconnection of our proprietary SIP server with networks of IP telephone carriers or ISPs allows outbound calling to PSTN for subscribed land-line telephones and cellular phones as well as International calls. Moreover, the connection to virtual private networks such as IP-VPN and Ethernet-VPN allows direct calls to extension numbers from outside of the office as if they were internal calls.

4) A seamless IP Telephony environment:
PPPhone  supports industry standard STUN and UPnP which has high affinity with SIP, accommodating NAT methods often used in enterprise IP networks (*3). This creates a seamless IP Telephony environment, regardless of whether communication is between branch offices or between a branch office and an outside line.

(*1) Wake On Ring: The technology to wake up a PDA automatically from power-off/-saving mode by incoming signals to communication cards such as PHS. WakeOnRing is powered by our proprietary "PPPush" solution.
(*2) Actual battery standby-time depends on each PDA, communication card and incoming signal strength.
(*3) According to method of NAT it may be impossible to support.
