Main elements of the BlackBerry solution
BlackBerry Smartphone
The BlackBerry is an advanced SmartPhone designed especially for business users. It supports mobile telephony, push e-mail, text messaging, internet faxing, web browsing and other wireless information services. It has a built-in keyboard, optimized for "thumbing", the use of only the thumbs to type. System navigation is primarily accomplished by the trackwheel (or "thumbwheel"), a scrolling wheel with a "click" function, located on the right side of the device.
 
BlackBerry Enterprise Server
BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) is the name of the middleware software package that connects to messaging and collaboration software (Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise) on enterprise networks to synchronize email and PIM information between desktop and mobile software.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server acts as the centralized link between wireless devices, enterprise applications and wireless networks. BES is designed to meet the needs of enterprise and government organizations, it provides a proven, secure, open architecture for globally extending wireless communications and corporate data to mobile users.

 
BlackBerry Desktop Software
BlackBerry Desktop software is an integrated suite of applications that manages the link between your BlackBerry SmartPhone and your email account, organizer and more. The BlackBerry Desktop Software runs on your desktop PC and allows you to:
  • Synchronize email and organizer information (calendar, contacts, memos and tasks) between the BlackBerry smartphone PC.
  • Load new applications and upgrades from your PC to the BlackBerry smartphone.
  • Back up any important information from the smartphone the PC.
  • Transfer files between your computer and your BlackBerry smartphone.
  • Migrate data from a BlackBerry smartphone, PalmŪ Treo or Windows Mobile based device to a new BlackBerry smartphone.
If you are running BlackBerry Enterprise Solution, you can also create an Auto Signature to be included in the body of your outgoing email messages sent from both your smartphone and desktop PC, filter the incoming email messages by key words, message fields (including From, To, Cc, Bcc, Subject) and message body.
